Lenge Joseph Peter Lenge, age 67, a resident of Delaware, Ohio, passed away May 1, 2017, at St. Ann's Hospital. Survived by wife of 43 years, Linda (Curtis); daughters, Vanessa, Jessica (Steve) Kane; grandchildren, Gabby, Landon, brother Peter (Kathy); nephew, Andrew (Jennifer); grandnieces, Ashlynn, Avery; niece, Amy (Jonathan) Wachter; sister-in-law, Diane Curtis (Chris Welch); nieces, Danielle, Hannah, Claire; nephew, Luke Bidigare-Curtis; aunt, Judith (Soltez) Perone; and many cousins. Preceded in death by parents Peter J. and Anna F. (Soltez) Lenge, grandparents, aunts and uncles. Joe was born and raised in Columbus, Ohio, and lived over 35 years in Worthington, Ohio. Joe graduated in 1968 from DeSales High School and in 1972 from Ohio Dominican College. Joe was a math teacher, football, track and field coach in Dublin Schools for 35 years at Dublin Middle and Davis Middle schools before retiring in 2009. His long career touched and influenced many lives as he mentored teachers, coaches, students, and athletes. Joe loved trivia games, card games, casinos, Sudoku, gardening, mystery novels, anything Sherlock Holmes, and collected stamps, coins, and reptiles throughout his life. He taught many how to play chess, including his young grandchildren. Serving in multiple roles, Joe was a track official for the Ohio High School Athletic Association, and served on many OHSAA boards and committees. He received the National Federation of State High School Officials Association 2015-2016 Ohio Boys Track and Field official of the year award. Joe officiated winter collegiate, spring track and field, and fall cross country events, taught fellow track officials, and possessed a detailed memory of each annual Track and Field Rules book. In remembrance, a Celebration of Joe Lenge will be held Sunday, May 21, 2017, from 3-6 p.m. at Davis Middle School (2400 Sutter Parkway, Dublin OH 43016). Friends, former teachers, students, athletes, and OHSAA officials will be able to share stories and memories. The family asks attendees to bring a copy of a favorite photo of Joe and write a message on the paper copy to help the family remember how many lives Joe touched. In lieu of flowers, a "Joe Lenge Legacy Fund" has been set up at Davis Middle School. The fund is to support students in participating in sports and class events.
