Department Mission Statement

The Department of World Languages at St. Francis DeSales High School strives to provide a challenging environment while preparing students to be responsible citizens in an emerging global society. Strong emphasis is placed upon developing communicative proficiency and cultural awareness as we work to balance interpersonal, interpretive, and presentational modes of communication.


Department Chairs

Antonella Iacobone was born and raised in Columbus, Ohio. She attended Bishop Watterson High school as well as The Ohio State University, where she attained a degree in Italian Education. She has taught in Columbus Public Schools as well as Bishop Hartley High School, and has been teaching at St. Francis DeSales High School since 2011. For the past 25 years, she has traveled extensively to Italy, where she met her husband, Angelo. They have two boys, Rocco and Giuliano. She enjoys cooking and travelling as well as spending time with her family. She is a Pinterest enthusiast, and  loves learning new things.

Marie Lessells was born and raised in San Juan, Puerto Rico, and moved to Columbus in the 8th grade. She attended Bishop Watterson High School and graduated from The Ohio State University with a BS in Child and Family Studies, After eight years as a pre-school teacher/director and Spanish teacher for grades K-8 at St. Mary School in German Village, Mrs. Lessells returned to OSU to obtain a Master's degree in Foreign Language Education. She has 10 brothers and sisters and has been married for over 20 years to her husband, Doug, with whom she has a daughter, Isabella and a son, Mateo.
