Johnston Frederick "Fred" S. Johnston, III, age 70, of Atlanta, Georgia, passed away on July 28, 2016. Fred graduated from St. Francis DeSales in 1964. He was an Army veteran of Vietnam. Fred worked for Ohio Bell and retired in 2005 from AT&T. After retiring, Fred went to work for Cypress Communications in Georgia. He also was a substitute teacher for the elementary schools in Gwinnett County. He was an avid quilter and a member of the Gwinnett Quilters' Guild. Fred enjoyed singing. He was a member of both his church choir, as well as the Marietta, Georgia chapter of Big Chicken Chorus. He loved to entertain family and friends. He enjoyed traveling, especially in his RV. Preceded in death by parents Frederick Stephen and Betty J. Johnston, nephew Matthew Horn, and niece Shannon Reilein. Survived by children, Michael (Carey) Johnston and Stephan (Eva) Johnston; two grandchildren; two step grandchildren; sisters, Barbara (Don) Horn, Rebecca Casey (Jim); brother, Johnathan Blaise (Sharon) Johnston; numerous nieces and nephews; former wife and mother of children, Carla K. Johnston; and former wife, Glenna Johnston. Friends may call at Shepherd Church of Nazarene, 425 S. Hamilton Rd. on Saturday, August 20 at 12 noon-1:30 p.m. The memorial service will immediately follow, Pastor Tim Swanson officiating.
