Social studies department

Department Mission Statement

The primary goal of the social studies department of St. Francis DeSales High School is to prepare our students to be engaged and effective citizens of our democratic republic and the global community. Understanding our past is essential to understanding the issues and problems of today. We are committed to helping students see the world from various social science perspectives--as historians, geographers, political scientists, economists, psychologists, sociologists, etc. Our classes are designed to develop learners who seek information from many sources and perspectives, ask meaningful questions, and can analyze and evaluate information and ideas. These skills will equip our graduates to be problem solvers and active participants in civic and community life.
