Columbus Suburban College Fair - October 7, 2018

The 2018 Columbus Suburban College Fair

Sunday, October 7
1:00 - 3:30 PM
Clements Center Otterbein University
Westerville, OH 43081

About:  Since 1980 a consortium of Columbus (Ohio) suburban high schools has sponsored a college fair each autumn to assist students and their parents explore college opportunities. Since that time, the fair has experienced tremendous growth in both size and stature. Each year more than 4,000 students and parents from the Columbus area and more than 200 colleges, universities and military representatives from across the United States have participated. Otterbein University has generously hosted the fair since 1985. The fair is presented in the spacious Clements Center. The impressive success of the Columbus Suburban College Fair has brought many accolades. In 1992, in recognition of its outstanding continuous service to students and parents, the fair was honored by the Ohio Association for College Admission Counseling as the first program to be inducted into the Ohio College Fair Hall of Fame. This program has been registered with the OACAC College Day/Night Calendar Committee.

FOR STUDENTS – College Fair Preparation

  • Look over the list of colleges participating. Target a few you want to see. The college tables are arranged alphabetically.

  • Introduce yourself to the college representative. Shake his/her hand. Make eye contact. He/She might ask you to fill out an interest card or sign your name to a list.

  • Ask questions that aren’t answered in books or literature such as, "How do you assign roommates in the dorms?" or "Is it hard to change majors at the college?"

  • Print Labels including your name, address, email, and high school prior to attending fair.  These labels can be placed on interest cards for the individual colleges in place of handwriting your information.

Eucharistic Adoration, Friday, September 7

On Friday, September 7, we will celebrate Eucharistic Adoration at the school. The day will begin with Mass at 7 a.m. in the chapel followed by Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament for the entire school day. Eucharistic Adoration will close with Benediction at approximately 2:45 p.m . We would like to invite parents to sign up for a holy hour during the day to come and pray for the students, faculty, and staff. If you care to just drop in and make a visit to the chapel during the day, you may do that as well.

Contact Bill or Mary Beth Hinger at bill.hinger@gmail.com or call 614-560-1555 with any questions.

The intention of the upcoming Eucharistic Adoration is to pray for the members of our senior class as they discern their final post-secondary education plans, and in light of growing divisiveness in our world may our Church serve as a sanctuary for those who are fleeing political or religious persecution.

SFD and Catholic Schools in Session Tomorrow (9/5)

2_SFDHS_seal_267.png

Dear Parents;

As you may have heard Columbus Public Schools have made the decision to cancel classes for tomorrow due to the extreme heat.  Please note that Saint Francis DeSales High School will be in session.  In order to make our students a bit more comfortable during this heat wave we will allow our students to be out of uniform tomorrow. In order to ensure that students are in compliance with out of uniform parameters please consult the SFD Family Handbook regarding what is permitted when we are out of uniform.

In addition, students are encouraged to carry water bottles with them during this heat.  No soda, Gatorade or other sugary drinks are permitted in the classrooms as they draw bees and other insects.  It is important to note that during the course of a school day students do have access to Air-Conditioning; however, should a student begin to experience any heat related distress they should let a teacher or administrator know immediately so they can receive immediate attention.

In closing, for those students who are reliant on Columbus or Gahanna transportation we have been notified that buses will transport on their normal schedule.

Peace and God’s Blessings,

Dan Garrick

Principal
