Department Mission Statement

The Department of Computer and Information Sciences has been designed to enrich and expand our students’ technological literacy through the exploration of technology with continued attention paid to the contemporary social and cultural systemic responses.  The department serves to engage students in the exploration of the disciplinary foundations of computer science and information science, the examination of technology in a legal context through contemporary case law, and to examine how technology is changing the social context, culture, relationships, and one’s self-identification.

Department Chairperson

Ben McGinnis has been with St. Francis DeSales High School for just over four years and is also the Director of Technology Instruction, in addition to, being the Head Coach of the Cross Country Program and Co-Head Coach of the Track & Field teams. Mr. McGinnis teaches SFD Productions, Intro to Computer Science, Web Design, and Tech : Politics : Security. Mr. McGinnis has a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from The Ohio State University (2009) and a Masters of Science in Instructional Technology from Duquesne University (2012).
