Joseph Carpenter ‘68

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Joseph “Joe” Carpenter II on March 23, 2025. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend, Joe’s warmth and kindness touched everyone who knew him.

Born in Columbus, Ohio, on September 2nd 1950, Joe remained a proud resident of his hometown throughout his life. He graduated from St. Francis DeSales High School in 1968 and earned his degree from The Ohio State University in 1972. His unwavering passion for OSU Buckeye football was evident, as he faithfully attended home, away, and bowl games for over five decades, sharing these cherished moments with family and friends.

Joe dedicated 36 years of his professional life to Nationwide Insurance as a software engineer, where he was respected not only for his work ethic but also for his genuine camaraderie and mentorship.

Family and friends were the cornerstone of Joe’s life. He was a loving husband, a supportive father to his daughter and son-in-law, and a doting grandfather whose stories and laughter will be dearly missed. His kindness knew no bounds, and he instilled in his family the values of compassion, loyalty, and generosity.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents Thelma and Joseph Carpenter and in-laws Ruth and Wilfred Morin. He is survived by his beloved wife, Janet; daughter, Victoria; son-in-law, Dominique; his adored grandchildren, Trey, Nahlani and Nori. His brother and his wife, Michael and Karla ; Nephews Mike, Robert, Joseph; niece Amy and their children. Special friends, Terry Moore; Don and Teresa Moore; Judy and Dave Porter; and Becky Weaver.
