 Traditions That Last

A new Tradition was started in 2008 as we began photographing SFDHS alumni parents with their children after the Baccalaureate Mass.

Since 1964, St. Francis DeSales High School has provided a premier Catholic education to over 10,000 students. Each new freshman class arrives to accept the challenges laid before them and willingly continue our great Stallion tradition of excellence. After four years of a SFDHS education, students leave as young men and women prepared to lead in faith, academics, and service in their community.

The Alumni Legacy Scholarship recognizes the commitment and support of alumni to their alma mater in choosing to send their children to St. Francis DeSales High School. Each year, the Alumni Board and Council select five incoming freshmen to receive a $1,000 scholarship.  It is the Alumni Board and Council’s primary goal to provide a scholarship to all children of alumni who attend DeSales.  This can only be done with annual gifts.  Currently, The Alumni Legacy Scholarship is funded through Alumni Board and Council fund raisers. The intent is to start to endow The Alumni Legacy Scholarship. An endowment is a permanent, self-sustaining source of funding. Endowment assets are invested. Each year, a portion of the value of the fund is paid out to support The Alumni Legacy Scholarships, and any earnings in excess of this distribution are used to build the scholarship fund’s market value. In this way, the endowment fund can grow and provide support for the Alumni Legacy Scholarship in perpetuity. The Alumni Board and Council will ensure consistent awarding of earnings while the principal amount is invested so it will continue to grow. For example, an endowment valued at $100,000 will provide (4) four $1,000 Alumni Legacy Scholarships with an annual spending rate of 4%.

To secure the future of the Alumni Legacy Scholarship, gifts are essential to sustaining the growth of the endowment. The size of the gift is not as important as the fact that we all show our Stallion support by contributing according to our own ability. You can choose to give your gift by either cash, stock, or through a bequest in your will. All gifts are tax-deductible. If we all work together, we will strengthen and grow The Alumni Legacy Scholarship endowment, creating new opportunities for our alumni to share with their children and grandchildren the ideals of Faith, Family, and Tradition; they are the future of St. Francis DeSales
