Bernadette (Pangborn) Hatem ‘67

Bernadette A. “Bernie” Hatem, age 76, of Pickerington, passed away Sunday

morning, June 14, 2026 at her residence surrounded by her family. She was

born August 24, 1949 in Columbus to the late Donald William and Agnes

(Gill) Pangborn. She was a 1967 graduate of St. Francis DeSales High

School, and received an Associates degree from Franklin University. She

earned her FMLI and had a long career in the insurance industry, retiring

from Grange Insurance in 2013 as a business systems analyst.

She was a member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish, where she was a long

time choir member and she taught CCD classes for many years. She joined

the Pickerington Lions Club in 1998, serving as President 2004-05 and 2014-

15, and was a Melvin Jones Fellow, a Knight for Sight, and also received the

Above & Beyond Award.

She was a former den leader for Pack 256 and was a long time supporter of

Scout Troop 256. She was a member of the Red Hat Society for many years,

was a certified ceramicist, teaching classes for many years, and she loved her

dogs (especially poodles) and the hummingbirds at her feeder.

She is survived by her husband of 50 years, James “Jim” Hatem; sons, Joshua

Hatem and Tyler Hatem; brothers, Donald “Bill” Pangborn, II, Edward “Ed”

(Denise “Dee”) Pangborn, Michael “Mike” (Theresa) Pangborn, Jeffrey

“Jeff” (Carolyn) Pangborn; sister, Teresa (Dennis) King; brothers- and sisters-

in-law; countless nieces and nephews, and great-nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her sister-in-law, Lisa Pangborn.
